COUNCIL MEETING
MINUTES OF MEETING ON MARCH 21, 2019
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Jarvis Deel, Trevor Counts, Vice Mayor Ralph Sutherland, Herbert Branham, Virginia White, Stearl Branham
MEMBERS ABSENT: Nathan Mullins
TOWN CLERK: Tina Deel
TOWN ATTORNEY: Greg Baker
Call to Order & Welcome by Mayor
Mayor Jarvis Deel welcomed everyone and called the meeting to order and asked for a moment of silence.
Approval of Minutes
Mayor Jarvis Deel asked if everyone has had time to look at the last minutes and if there is any discussion over the minutes; no discussion was made. Herbert Branham made a motion to approve the minutes; Stearl Branham seconded the motion; a vote was taken and all members were in favor.
Approval of Treasurers Reports
Mayor Jarvis Deel asked if everyone has had a chance to look at their treasurers’ reports (General and Police Department); and if you have, I would like to ask if anyone has any discussion over the reports; no discussion was made. Stearl Branham made a motion to approve both treasurers’ reports; Vice Mayor Ralph Sutherland seconded the motion; a vote was taken and all members were in favor.
Agenda:
Mayor Deel asked for any additions to the agenda; Mayor Deel stated he had a request a while ago, and he wanted to make an addition to the agenda; Mayor Jarvis Deel stated he would like to make an addition to the agenda; to add Peggy Kiser under public comments; Vice Mayor Ralph Sutherland made a motion to approve the agenda with the addition of Peggy Kiser being added under public comments; Stearl Branham seconded the motion; a vote was taken and all members were in favor.
Old Business:
St. Joseph University Students:
Mayor Jarvis Deel stated I think we all done really well with that, and gave a break down of all the money spent on the students; which equaled out to $45.75 per student. Mayor Deel stated how wonderful of a group we had, and how great of a job they done while they were here. Also, they did get to do some sightseeing. Mayor Deel made a motion to go ahead and get an ad ran in the Dickenson Star to say thank you to everyone who helped and participated in taking care of the students; Vice Mayor Ralph Sutherland seconded the motion; a vote was taken and all members were in favor.
Update on the water up at the ball field:
Mayor Jarvis Deel stated as an update on the water up at the ball field; Mayor Deel recapped in stating that me and Richard met with the DMME up at the ballfield. It is looking very possible that we will be eligible for a DMME grant to get something done about that. It is going to be put on their list and looked at, and more than likely they will get something done about it; it will be some sort of project to make sure the mine is stable, and have better drainage on the water situation.
Some discussion was made about the dam that needs to be taken out.
New Business:
Mayor Jarvis Deel asked if anyone had any new business to discuss; Vice Mayor Ralph Sutherland stated if anyone could talk to the state dept and get that road cut, back there and get that stuff off of it; Mayor Jarvis Deel stated ok, (making note) and asked if there was anymore new business; no other new business was discussed.
Public Comments:
Mayor Deel asked the town attorney, Greg Baker to read the rules for public comments; Greg read out loud all rules that must be followed by the public as they give comments. Peggy Kiser addressed the council members and discussed her feelings, and thoughts, and answered questions of running for Ervington District Supervisor.
Council Comments:
Mayor Deel asked for council comments; no comments were made.
Adjournment:
Vice Mayor Ralph Sutherland made the motion to adjourn; Herbert Branham seconded the motion; a vote was taken and all members were in favor.
