Stewards AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America)

Town of Clinchco

Are you passionate about improving the community?  Are you looking for an opportunity to engage with citizens and local leaders while working toward improving the area’s standard of living? The Stewards AmeriCorps VISTA program may be the right fit.  The Town of Clinchco is sponsoring a VISTA position that will focus primarily on economic development but will also include elements of community engagement and environmental stewardship. Conceptual town master plans were compiled by the Community Design Assistance Center at Virginia Tech with input from the community. A large portion of the VISTA program will focus on evaluating the feasibility of proposed initiatives then identifying those that will move forward and providing subsequent support.  One proposal, the Tiny Business Village (TBV), has already been identified as an initiative that will move forward. The VISTA will provide project management, marketing, and administrative support for the TBV project. As part of the community engagement work, the VISTA will routinely attend local government and support organization meetings to gain insight that will assist with prioritizing initiatives from the master plan that align with the county’s Strategic Economic Development Plan.

VISTAs come from various backgrounds.  Whether you are an individual looking for meaningful experience on which to build a career, a retired professional looking to apply your knowledge and skills, or somewhere in between, serving as a VISTA can provide a valuable and rewarding experience.

Benefits include a living allowance, relocation allowance if applicable, childcare assistance if eligible, training, health coverage, choice of education award or end of service stipend.
